This week Cathay Pacific took delivery of its third aircraft since February with the new and improved business class. The aircraft was a Boeing B777-300ER and is assigned to the New York – Hong Kong route. The new business class product has been in development for over two years and touts a better lie-flat bed, more comfortable seat, and privacy while providing a spacious feel.
According to Business Traveller, Cathay’s new chief executive officer, John Slosar, who headed the group which picked up the B777 at the Boeing plant in Everett, Seattle, states the non-stop New York flights have generated strong feedback since being increased from one to four daily runs from March 27, 2011. “Based on this, we’re thinking of adding another (daily) flight,” he said.
Four more new B777-300ERs with the same amenities are scheduled to join the fleet this year, with more to come in the years following. Cathay’s existing B777ERs and A330s will also be retrofitted with the new business class seating and amenities, and within two years all of Cathay’s long-haul flights will offer this new seating. .In two years' time, all of CX's long-haul flights will offer the improved seating, with the exception of the airline’s B747’s. "Since they are due for retirement, it wouldn't make sense to put in the new product," Slosar said.
