Lufthansa to Introduce A380 Service to San Francisco

Posted: January 28th, 2011

Lufthansa will become the first carrier to serve San Francisco with the giant Airbus A380 aircraft beginning May 10. The carrier will operate a daily A380 flight from Frankfurt to the “city by the bay,” replacing the Boeing 747-400 currently used on the Frankfurt-San Francisco route. The new schedule includes flight LH454, departing Frankfurt at 9:35 am and arriving in San Francisco at 11:55 am, and LH455 leaving California at 2:20 pm and landing back in Frankfurt at 10:05 am the following day. The A380 aircraft will carry up to 526 passengers — 420 in economy, 98 in business and eight in first class. Lufthansa currently serves Johannesburg, Beijing and Tokyo with the A380, with New York set to begin A380 service on February 28. At present only Qantas flies the A380 to the US West Coast, with services to Los Angeles. Singapore Airlines is also set to serve LA with the superjumbo from the end of March.
